Nobles County approves child-care grant request and accepts $480,000 DEED grant for expansion

Nobles County approved a funding request for "Applicant Twenty-Four" as part of the county’s child care grant framework established to distribute opioid settlement and matching funds.
County staff said the county previously authorized up to $400,000 (Dec. 2022) for three child care grant programs to accompany Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) funding, and staff and a review committee had developed application frameworks and reviewed proposals. The Board voted to approve Applicant Twenty-Four’s funding request (moved by Commissioner Chris Dybevick, seconded by Commissioner Bob Paplow).
Separately, the Board approved the State of Minnesota grant contract NO. CCED-25-0022-S-FY25, a DEED award of $480,000 to support two new child care programs in Nobles County (projects eligible for $240,000 each). Staff said the majority of grant funds are intended for building improvements needed to meet child care licensure standards. The grant agreement was approved by motion at the March 4 meeting.
