The Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted March 3 to adopt Resolution No. 07‑26, instituting a one‑year moratorium on accepting Conditional Use Permit or zoning permit applications for data centers, including cryptocurrency mining operations, to allow time for expert consultation and zoning ordinance revisions. The moratorium will remain in effect until March 2, 2027, unless the Board votes to extend it.
Tim Fox of the Charles City Area Development Corporation provided a fact sheet on tech parks before the Board acted. The roll call on the resolution recorded ayes from Chair Gloria A. Carr and Supervisors Frank Rottinghaus and Boyd Campbell; the motion carried 3‑0. County materials state the moratorium is intended to give the Zoning Administrator, Zoning Commission and planning consultants time to draft and recommend regulatory updates.
