Floyd County signs agreement with NIACOG to pursue battery-storage zoning amendments

On Feb. 24 the Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to enter an agreement with the North Iowa Area Council of Governments (NIACOG) to amend the county zoning ordinance for Battery Energy Storage Systems. The motion (Rottinghaus/Campbell) authorizes NIACOG to provide planning assistance and draft ordinance language.
Board members indicated the NIACOG work is intended to develop clear local standards for siting, permitting and safety related to battery-storage projects; further committee or public review will follow the drafting work.
