Local dealers urge stronger measures to prevent truck crossings at John Fitch Boulevard

Several nearby business owners told the Planning and Zoning Commission they see frequent unsafe crossings by trucks at the Route 5 intersection and asked the commission and applicant to pursue stronger physical measures in addition to signage.
Lenny Triglia, owner of 5 Motorcars, described repeated incidents of vehicles cutting across and damaging his lot and mailbox and asked how his access would be preserved under the proposed site plan. "The trucks cause everything because they'll pull out from my area and they'll pull across, and you basically have to go up over the grass before you can make the turn because you're gonna hit the guardrail," Triglia said, describing the risks to large vehicles and his property.
Commissioners and the applicant discussed alternatives, including a raised striped island or small raised divider that would physically direct traffic to make right turns instead of crossing Route 5. Applicant counsel said the island could be shown on DOT permit plans but DOT approval is required; staff said any physical work in the state right-of-way is subject to DOT review.
