Aging director proposes one-year pilot for fixed senior transportation route; committee approves van purchase and budget amendment

Amy Haskins, Aging and Youth Director, and Kelly Beaudette, Deputy Director, told the committee the department will hold a Legal Day on May 13 at the Palmyra VFW and is seeking an elder-law representative because LawNY cannot attend.
Haskins described a proposed one-year pilot of a fixed transportation route to help seniors access lunches, center activities, prescriptions, and groceries in areas without nearby stores or pharmacies—specifically Clyde, Savannah, and Wolcott. She said the department would evaluate participation after one year and consider less costly alternatives if ridership is low, for example enrolling people who only travel for lunch in the home-delivered meals program.
The committee approved three related transmittals 4-0: a budget amendment to the 2026 County budget, authorization to purchase a replacement handicap van (with an associated budget amendment), and authorization to sign on with the Association on Aging in New York for dietitian services. The approvals enable procurement and program planning for transportation and nutrition services.
