Wayne County Extension announces new 4‑H educator, DOT partnership and expanded community programs

Nancy Gift, director of Wayne County Cornell Cooperative Extension, provided program and staffing updates to the Economic Development and Planning Committee on Feb. 4.
Gift said a new 4‑H livestock educator — a Wayne County native — is scheduled to begin in April. She announced the Extension is partnering with the Village of Newark on a U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets grant to evaluate walkability and bicycling infrastructure, and that the Agricultural Economic Development Educator recently became a certified pesticide applicator and will begin teaching pesticide certification courses. Gift also said the County Nutrition Lead is conducting outreach to low‑income and multiunit housing developments to expand nutrition programming. She noted that Craig Kahlke, leader of the Lake Ontario Fruit Team, will present at next month’s Committee meeting.
The updates were provided as part of the Extension’s regular report; no action was required. Committee members did not object to the planned outreach and training activities and will receive the Lake Ontario Fruit Team presentation at the Committee’s March meeting.
