Police and community reports: JR Police Academy, Guns vs Hoses, master plan updates

Department reports noted the Iosco County Master Plan progress, upcoming JR Police Academy (July 27–29) and Guns vs Hoses softball game (Aug. 8), and announced a hazardous waste disposal event and other community activities.
Multiple departmental and committee reports were included in the June 22 packet and presented verbally. Community Development Director Ms. Howse reported the Iosco County Master Plan had been finished and presented to the County Planning Commission and noted several upcoming meetings and events, including the Develop Iosco quarterly meeting on Sept. 10 and a hazardous waste disposal event on Sept. 12.
Chief McNichol (Oscoda Township Police Department) provided May statistics, noted the JR Police Academy scheduled for July 27–29, 2026 and the annual Guns VS Hoses softball game on Aug. 8 at Furtaw Field. Chief McNichol reminded residents not to leave children or animals unattended in vehicles and reported a patrol vehicle being repaired after striking a deer. The police department also posted the vacant officer position on MCOLES and in the Oscoda Press with one resume received so far.
Planning Commission Chair Mr. Linderman reported cancelation of the public hearing on the renewable energy overlay district and noted a Consumers Energy battery storage special land use request on the July 6 Planning Commission agenda.
