Oscoda Board sends proposed solar ordinance back to Planning Commission for more review

On June 22 the Oscoda Township Board unanimously voted to refer Ordinance No. 165, 'An Ordinance to Amend the Zoning Ordinance to Regulate Solar Energy Systems,' back to the Planning Commission for additional review and recommendations focused on whether a Renewable Energy District/Overlay District or another approach is appropriate.
Trustee Wygant made the motion and Trustee Tait supported it; the motion carried with no recorded opposition. The referral directs the Planning Commission to revisit zoning language and districting options rather than advancing the ordinance to adoption in its present form.
The Planning Commission previously canceled a public hearing for the renewable energy overlay district (noted in the department reports) and is scheduled to consider related land-use items at future meetings, including a Consumers Energy battery storage special land use request on July 6. The board’s referral preserves time for additional public input and planning commission recommendations.
