Middleville council approved a no-fee permit allowing Middleville Community Softball to use Spring Park from Aug. 16 through Oct. 11, with the requirement that the league provide insurance and enter a written agreement spelling out schedules and maintenance responsibilities. The motion to approve the permit, made by President Kevin Smith, was supported and carried by voice vote.
League representative Morris described the season and asked the council to waive fees while the league helps with upkeep: "I am asking that the field be provided at no cost." Council members discussed the need for parity with the existing MYA agreement that covers Crane Park and Spring Park and conditioned approval on producing the same kind of agreement and the insurance certificate. The council also asked staff to confirm exact dates and include an insurance contingency in the permit.
