Floyd County boards move to place 911 governance under Emergency Management

Floyd County officials agreed March 9, 2026, to begin transferring the 911 Service Board’s duties to the county Emergency Management Commission. The 911 Service Board approved a motion to amend its bylaws under Section 11 and will vote on that amendment at the May 7, 2026, 911 Service Board meeting; the motion carried 11-0.
Separately, the Emergency Management Commission moved to assume the 911 Service Board duties and approved the action 7-0. County leaders said the transfer would consolidate oversight of emergency communications under Emergency Management; board members directed staff and board representatives to prepare a revised 28E agreement reflecting any changes in roles and membership for consideration at a future meeting.
