The Wilkes County Board set a special called meeting for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 5:30 P.M. to continue budget deliberations and to permit the Board the option to adopt the FY2026–27 budget at that meeting if they deem it ready. Commissioner Casey Johnson made the motion to schedule the session; Vice Chairman Evan Handy seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.
During discussion commissioners stressed transparency for citizens and nonprofit recipients, and Chairman Hardin Kennedy emphasized he wants commissioners to have final, accurate budget documents in front of them before any vote. County Attorney Tony Triplett restated the motion later in the meeting to set the special called meeting and to include personnel discussions as part of the allowed business.
