The board approved appointments to county authorities and the board of county canvassers during the Sept. 23 meeting.
On the recommendation of the Appointment Alignment Committee, the board approved Jack Vandermolen as director to the Economic Development Corporation and Brownfield Authority for the remainder of the term (ending 12/31/2025). The motion carried on unanimous roll call.
For the county canvassers, county staff explained the statutory process for nominations and noted that, in odd-numbered years, each party typically forwards three names; in this cycle each party forwarded fewer names. Commissioners discussed the background of the nominees and the limited information available for one candidate. After roll call, Laurie Bruker was confirmed for the Republican seat (recorded votes show Bruker prevailing over Jeanie Lutz) and James Searls was confirmed for the Democratic seat. Commissioners noted the importance of canvasser experience and training in supporting election processes.
Clerk/staff explained the process and confirmed terms and start dates for the appointees. The board thanked the nominees for their willingness to serve.
