Local nonprofit says federal staffing and budget changes jeopardize winter aid for thousands

Jennifer Brzowski, director of the Ottawa County Community Action Agency, told the board that federal staffing cuts at the Office of Community Services and the lack of a federal budget create uncertainty for core funding streams.
"Without staff in that office we have no assurance that CSBG funds will reach the local agencies and communities that depend on them including OCA," Brzowski said, outlining that OCA served over 5,000 residents in 2024 through emergency assistance, food security programs and home repair. She urged commissioners to contact the county’s congressional delegation to underscore local consequences if the grants are not preserved.
