Supervisors reviewed a staff chart showing the school division needs approximately $21 million for maintenance work, about $15 million of which County staff said is HVAC-related. Supervisor David Ferguson asked why the county proposed only $5 million toward those needs when the total maintenance estimate is much larger.
County Administrator Evan Vass said the schools expect to borrow for major capital renovations and architectural design work; if a large elementary-school renovation moves forward as a capital project, some maintenance needs (including HVAC) would be included in that larger plan. The Board expressed concern that even with a $5 million commitment, substantial unmet maintenance needs remain.
