Stanley police chief asks Board to fund school resource officer in FY2027

Chief Rebecca Jenkins of the Town of Stanley Police Department told the Board she appreciates county financial support for the Stanley Elementary school resource officer and asked that the position be funded in the FY2027 budget.
Supervisor Ryan Cubbage asked whether the SRO would also perform patrol for the Town of Stanley; Chief Jenkins said the SRO supports patrol when school is not in session and patrol officers cover the SRO position for vacations, sick leave and school events. No formal motion or funding decision was recorded at the April 6 meeting.
