Nicole, the county communications staff member, outlined how Sedgwick County will handle a large public turnout for two zoning hearings on Aug. 5: "Doors will open at 8, and sign ups will begin shortly after. Sign ups will close at 9 when the meeting begins," she said. She added the county will provide separate sign‑in sheets for public comment and for each zoning case to keep the record clear.
The county will offer overflow options and live broadcasts to accommodate observers who cannot find seating in the lower‑level auditorium at 100 North Broadway. Nicole said presentations should be submitted to the communications email (communications@sedgric.gov) by noon Tuesday if possible, and staff can accommodate last‑minute materials at the chair's discretion. Angela, the clerk, described the sign‑up process staff will use: "we will give them a number...we typically go ahead and fill out their name as they state it to us so we can read it," she said, noting staff will collect contact information to clarify remarks for the minutes.
The chair and commissioners discussed practical staffing of sign‑up tables and the presence of clerks and other staff members to manage lines and keep the speaking order accessible to commissioners upstairs and in any overflow space. County staff also said the meeting will be broadcast live on the county's YouTube and Facebook channels so those who cannot attend in person may view proceedings.
