Estimates for Huntsville park stump work ranged from $12,000 to $18,600; contractors differ on depth and phasing

The meeting packet includes three separate contractor estimates for grinding or removing more than 30 stumps in the Huntsville park. Arbormann quoted $12,000 to grind/remove 30+ stumps to below grade and noted heavy equipment may leave marks in grass. All Wood's submitted an estimate that lists $13,500 but applies a $1,500 client discount, yielding a net $12,000; its estimate states, "We will grind stump(s) to a depth of 8 inches below grade." Weber Davis submitted an $18,600 invoice that proposed completing 20 stumps now (to fit the city budget) and finishing the remaining 11 in a second phase.

Council members considered those differences when selecting Arbormann. The Weber Davis proposal explicitly framed its work as a two-phase plan to fit the town’s current budget constraint; the All Wood’s estimate noted it would leave stump mulch on site and is not liable for sprinkler damage. The council’s authorization reflects a choice consistent with the $12,000 budget line the mayor cited at the meeting.
