Huntsville cancels uncontested mayoral election and declares incumbent elected

Council member Bruce Ahlstrom explained the legal and practical basis for canceling the November mayoral election because Mayor Richard L. Sorensen was the only qualified candidate and the write‑in deadline had passed. "Doing SO would also save the Town money," Ahlstrom told the Council.
By roll call vote the Council approved Resolution 2025‑9‑18‑A, canceling the scheduled municipal mayoral election and declaring the unopposed candidate elected to office in accordance with state statute. The Council’s vote was unanimous, 5–0. The Clerk recorded the resolution and posted the notice as required by the municipal posting rules referenced in the resolution packet.
