Trail group seeks Huntsville backing to finish Pineview Loop, asks town to match engineering funds

Alan Wheelwright, executive director of Eden Valley Trails, told the council the Pineview Loop Pathway effort aims to complete a roughly 9-mile paved, non-motorized route around Pineview Reservoir and that the key missing link is the Winters Grove crossing where a bridge was washed out. Wheelwright said the grant they plan to seek would cover only 50% of engineering costs and asked Huntsville to consider a pledge to match those funds in order to make the project competitive for construction funding.
Council members thanked the presenter and said they would consult the town treasurer to determine what funds might be available and carry the item forward to a future agenda. "They needed to match the grant funds at 50%," Wheelwright told the council, noting the work would be planning only in 2026–2027 to generate engineering, constraints and cost estimates that would support later construction grants.
