Police warn of scams, preview speed cameras; fire chief notes burning ban and new Grady ambulances

At the Sept. 5 meeting the police and fire chiefs delivered routine department updates that included public-safety alerts and operational changes.
Police Chief Kevin warned the public about phone scams in which callers impersonate law enforcement and demand payment by cryptocurrency or gift cards; he urged residents to hang up and report such calls. Kevin also said the department expects two hires this month to reach full staffing and previewed new patrol vehicles becoming available. He told the council the speed-enforcement cameras near the school will be operational under Georgia law "24 hours a day, 7 days a week" and explained the administrative citation thresholds and the 30-day warning period required by statute.
Fire Chief Greg Brett reminded residents the state-imposed burning ban remains in effect through Sept. 30 and encouraged compliance; he also reported that Grady Health System has posted additional ambulances in the southern portion of the county, increasing local prehospital coverage.
