Board advances and adopts a package of district policies; three policies flagged for edits
Summary
On Oct. 24 the Stevenson-Carson board advanced first readings for a set of policies, adopted a second set, and requested targeted edits to policies 1420, 1440 and 2022 to change consent-agenda placement, minute-signing procedure, and language about electronic systems.
The Stevenson-Carson School District Board held first readings of policies including 1220, 1400, 1410, 1420, 1440 and 2022 and approved those first readings to advance them for later action. The board requested specific edits: move the consent agenda to the beginning of meetings (policy 1420); allow the presiding official to sign minutes when the chair is absent (policy 1440); and remove the portion of policy 2022 that assigns the superintendent or designee authority to create "strong electronic educational systems." No substantive vote on those specific edits was recorded; the items were advanced as first readings.
Separately, the board approved second readings and adopted policies 2337, 2340, 2406–2414, 2418, 2420, 2421, 3112 and 3241 after motions by Lisa Birney and second by Mitch Engel. Mark Chambers asked whether the matrix tied to policy 3241 would be adopted verbatim; Superintendent Ingrid Colvard said the procedure will contain specifics and the matrix may not be adopted verbatim.
