Council approves $16,000 for culinary‑water instrumentation and maintenance upgrades

Huntsville Town Council approved $16,000 in funding on Jan. 22 for lifecycle upgrades and instrumentation at the town’s culinary water plant following a technical update from plant staff.
Ron Gault reviewed recent flow totals, distribution losses and plant modifications performed since the major leak. He said the plant is still experiencing distribution losses that staff has not fully traced and that certain monitoring instruments are obsolete. Gault described a January 16 team workday that rebuilt the chlorine injection system and other maintenance tasks and asked the council to approve funding to replace required turbidity and chlorine monitors.
A motion by TCM Bruce Ahlstrom to approve $16,000—above an earlier agenda figure of up to $14,000—carried by roll‑call vote 5–0. The council directed staff to oversee the procurement and asked for status updates once installations are complete.
Gault also provided monthly flow figures and said the plant had installed an in‑plant bypass to address vulnerabilities revealed by the prior leak. He noted the replacements were intended as lifecycle investments and said the upgrades could reduce future unaccounted losses.
