The Huntsville Town Council on Jan. 22 approved an extension to the North Arrow development agreement, moving the deadline for project completion to March 22, 2031. The developers—represented at the meeting by Dakota and Jeff Hyde—said they had completed parts of phase 1 (hotel, rentals, coffee shop, observatory) and requested more time to finish phase 2 (condos).
During the discussion a disagreement surfaced over a town fire‑hydrant fee. The Hydes said they were told in earlier conversations with town staff and a contractor that their payment obligation would be $5,000. "We were quoted this price in a conversation with Town employees and a contractor a little over a year prior," Dakota Hyde told the council. Mayor Richard Sorensen responded that the town’s fire‑hydrant fee is $20,000 and the Hydes’ responsibility would be half of that amount—$10,000.
Despite the difference in recollection about the fee, the council approved the timeline extension on a motion by TCM Ahlstrom, seconded by TCM Truett, with a roll‑call vote of 5–0. The vote extended the development agreement as requested; the record shows the fee amount remained disputed between the mayor and the developers and no new payment was recorded at the meeting.
Council members indicated they expect the parties and staff to resolve the outstanding fee question as work continues on the project. The addendum extends previous agreement timelines and reaffirmed that all other terms of the original 2016 development agreement remain in effect.
