The Huntsville Town Council voted to approve up to $15,000 for repairs to aging playground equipment after members discussed options for immediate safety fixes versus a long-term replacement. Councilmembers said the existing equipment has reached the end of its useful life and that a full design and replacement could cost an estimated $300,000–$400,000; until that fundraising goal is met, the council approved limited repairs and will pursue possible reimbursement from OVPSA.
Councilmember Lewis Johnson questioned the need for the repair, saying the town may be exposed to liability; Councilmember Artie Powell and others favored moving forward on safety-focused repairs and seeking outside reimbursement. The mayor motioned to approve repair spending and the motion passed 4–1. The approved action authorizes repairs including slide work and parts replacement identified in vendor quotes in the meeting packet.
