Astoria moves quickly to update its historic preservation plan after receiving grant

City staff told the Historic Landmarks Commission that Astoria, an "all star heritage community," received a grant to update its historic preservation plan and must complete the process by June 2025.
Tiffany Taylor, city planner, said the grant will fund a consultant (Rosemary Johnson) to assist and that staff will distribute a questionnaire to commissioners and stakeholders, with responses due March 14 to be incorporated into an April 15 draft. Staff plans a May 20 recommendation to City Council and an anticipated Council adoption on June 2. Taylor said the update can include new goals or changes to development code or comprehensive plan language if commissioners recommend them.
The commission will be invited to submit comments via the questionnaire and take part in the April and May review steps. The fast grant timeline prompted staff to ask that commissioners and stakeholders return input on the schedule to meet the grant's completion requirements.
