Board approves pool boiler replacement using leftover grant funds; contractor quote authorized

After community comment and a facilities report that identified a failed heat exchanger, the board approved using leftover legislative grant funds to replace the pool boiler and authorized ET Burner and Boiler Service, Inc. to perform the work to avoid forfeiting the grant.
Facilities staff told the board the pool’s heat exchanger failed and the installed boiler is not appropriate for the environment; the chimney stack also needs replacement. Ed Farrell said district staff located a vendor in Portland with parts in stock and presented a quote for approximately $100,000 to replace the unit. Farrell noted the pool was closed for safety until repairs are completed.
Superintendent Ingrid Colvard recommended using remaining legislative grant funds earmarked for the high school project to pay for the boiler replacement so the district would not forfeit the grant. Colvard said "there is about $142,000 left in the grant and the quote to fix the pool boiler is about $100,000." On a motion by Lisa Birney, seconded by Mark Chambers, the board approved the ET Burner and Boiler Service, Inc. quote and the use of the remaining grant funds.
