VISION committee proposes "Historic Huntsville Preservation Foundation" and seeks council support for 501(c)(3)
Summary
A VISION Committee representative asked the council to back a proposed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the "Historic Huntsville Preservation Foundation," saying the status would make it easier to attract sponsors for events and park fundraising; the clerk said she will place a resolution on the next agenda and consult the attorney about legal steps.

Kevin Anderson, representing the Huntsville Town VISION Committee, told the council the committee had picked a name for a proposed nonprofit and asked the Town to help with steps toward formalizing it.
"The name they had chosen was the Historic Huntsville Preservation Foundation," Anderson said, adding the name was negotiable. He said the 501(c)(3) status would help secure sponsors for the Fall Festival and could also be used to raise funds for a playground.
Committee members and festival organizers told the council that some potential sponsors were unwilling to commit without a tax-deductible sponsorship vehicle. Hillary Evans, speaking for the events committee, asked the Town to promote the October 25 Fall Festival on the town website and in the town email blast.
Clerk Beckki Endicott said she would prepare a resolution for the council's next agenda and consult the town attorney on whether the Town itself must be a 501(c)(3) to accept donations. "She wasn't entirely sure that the Town would need to be a 5013c in order to accept donations as they had accepted donations in the past for the 4th of July celebration as well as for the Town Hall," the minutes record.
The council did not take formal action at the Oct. 2 meeting but directed staff to return with a resolution and legal clarification so the issue can be considered at a future meeting.
