Commission places three mill‑levy questions for senior services and Head Start on primary ballot

The Anaconda‑Deer Lodge County Commission voted unanimously to place three local mill‑levy questions before voters on the upcoming primary ballot.
The measures are: Resolution No. 26‑04 to levy three mills for operations of the Smelter City Senior Citizens' Center; Resolution No. 26‑05 to levy three mills for food programming at the Smelter City Senior Citizens' Center; and Resolution No. 26‑06 to levy two mills for the operation of the Anaconda‑Deer Lodge County Head Start program. County Attorney Morgan Smith advised the commission that the resolutions meet Montana legal criteria for ballot language, and commissioners individually encouraged public support for the measures while noting their vote only placed language on the ballot and did not constitute county funding authorization beyond the ballot process.
Chair Kevin Hart and CEO Bill Everett both praised the organizations and urged community support, with Everett saying, "these are good mills that need to be passed. These are great organizations and they do a heck of a job, and Anaconda relies on them." Each resolution was approved 4‑0 to appear on the ballot. The measures will proceed to election officials for printing and voter materials as part of the primary election process.
