EDC proposes 'RISE Campus' for workforce training, entrepreneurship

Rivera said the region has a lower share of bachelor’s degrees (14.5%) than the state (38%) and that many entry-level jobs are available but higher-skilled training is needed to retain residents and match the incoming industry investments.
Rivera listed partners already involved or interested in the idea including UTRGV, the Small Business Development Center, South Texas College and Workforce Solutions, and said the project team will pursue grants and regional support if the board and city endorse the concept. Trustees asked the city to investigate costs and tabled the RISE-building action for additional study while approving the walking-trail steps.
