Joshua’s Haven seeks to add women and children’s shelter; county hears public comment

During the public comment period, Sherry Masotto Swetz, representing Joshua’s Haven Rescue Mission in Sharon, told the Board of Commissioners that the Joshua’s Haven board has voted to extend services to operate a women and children’s shelter.
"There is no current shelter for them in Mercer County and that segment of the population is underserved," Masotto Swetz said, and added that Joshua’s Haven intends to construct an addition at its current location to provide the shelter. The comment was recorded during the public comment portion of the June 4 meeting.
Commissioner Coleman and others did not take formal action at the meeting on the proposal; the statement was entered into the minutes as public comment. Further approvals, zoning or permitting would be required before construction and operation could proceed.
