Parks coordinator reports Motz County Park opening, water sampling results and staffing updates

Thornton said 15% of the parks budget had been spent as of the end of April and that spending will increase in coming months; summer staff have been offered positions and are undergoing preemployment checks. He reported that "Motz County Park will be opening May 18, 2026," that the Hesse-Earl Youth Fishing program is scheduled for May 16, and that staff took surface-water sampling tests on all county park lakes which "came back positive." Thornton also reported a small team completed the annual verification of vernal pools at Clinton Trails and discovered a new pool, bringing the verified total to five.
Thornton noted park operations are running smoothly and that restrooms will be flushed and chlorinated once the Facilities department completes repairs. The report frames near-term operational work ahead of the summer season.
