County accepts $96,781 indigent‑defense grant; applies for up to $7,000 for Treatment Court

The Mercer County Board of Commissioners accepted a $96,781 award from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to support the county’s Indigent Defense Grant Program for 2025–2026. The resolution notes the funds will benefit the Mercer County Public Defender’s Office and conflict counsel, are state funds, require no county match and cannot supplant existing county spending.
Separately, the board approved submitting an application to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) for discretionary Treatment Court funds not to exceed $7,000 for FY2025–2026. IPP Director Tyler Shoaf said the funding would be used "to send IPP Coordinators to trainings and for incentives for the participants of Treatment Court. Incentives for gas cards can be used for transportation to hearings and group meetings. Gas cards usually are in the amount of $10.00." Both measures passed unanimously.
