Selectboard awards road salt contract to Appalachian after comparing two bids

The Selectboard reviewed two bids for road salt ahead of winter: American Salt at $89.00 per ton and Appalachian at $91.60 per ton. After discussion the board awarded the contract to Appalachian (motion by Bill Schwartz; seconded by Julie Isaacs; unanimous).
Highway Foreman Trevor Dryden reported the town backhoe was in for repairs and asked the board to hire surveyor Gary Rappanotti and Everett Engineering to inspect a bridge/culvert on Winhall Hollow Road near the John Spencer and Benson Fuller/Upper Taylor Road intersection; the board authorized Dryden to move forward with that engineering review.
The awards and authorizations aim to ensure winter readiness and to evaluate a structure noted by field staff.
