Finance, Ways, and Means schedules budget hearings Feb. 9–26, sets amendment and testimony deadlines

The chair of the Finance, Ways, and Means Committee announced the committee's budget hearing schedule and procedural rules at the Jan. 20, 2026 meeting, urging members to attend department and agency hearings and be courteous to commissioners and staff. A copy of the budget-hearing schedule was emailed to members and staff.
The chair provided specific rules: proposed committee amendments must be submitted by Monday at 10 a.m.; local bills with local fiscal impact will only be considered if sponsored or co‑sponsored by a representative from that locality; requests for guest testimony must be submitted to the chair's office at least 24 hours before the scheduled meeting and time limits will be placed on testimony and comments. The chair also introduced his intern for the year, Malia Whitlock of TSU. The chair emphasized that "the information provided in the hearings will be instrumental to you as committee members when we begin to do our work on the budget at the end of session."
