Manager search moves quickly: committee asks council preference on finalists and in-person rounds

“We have the right committee to move fast,” Guston said, describing community surveys, forums and tabling that shaped the candidate profile. The committee asked how many finalists to present; the mayor recommended the committee present up to five and then narrow to three finalists for council consideration. Councilors also supported an in-person finalist day but asked the committee to accommodate confidentiality for candidates who do not want their current employers to learn of applications.
The committee intends to invite finalists to meet department heads and the public as part of the in-person process; staff emphasized the charter residency requirement (which the council can waive) is included in the job posting. The committee plans 1st-round interviews beginning Aug. 13 and expects to forward finalists to council on Sept. 1 for further review.
