The Barre City Council voted July 28 to use Sempervan-request funds for decorative lighting on Church Street, sidewalk improvements on Auditorium Hill, and related underground feed work that restored lighting to the Church Street corridor.
City staff said three decorative light fixtures will be replaced to match Main Street and that bases are crumbling; the sidewalk work provided an opportunity to replace the bases. The procurement was handled without a new bid, using an established vendor who already supplies similar lights for the city. A councilor asked whether there was a required bid process; staff said procurement policy allowed sole sourcing to a vendor who had previously supplied the materials.
Council moved and approved the funding use by voice vote.
