City manager Mister Spence told the commission the theater’s executive director requested the grant to help complete approximately $1.7 million in exterior improvements. Spence said the commission had before it "a grant agreement for $200,000 with Liberty Theater for your consideration," noting the project’s broader fundraising success and the remaining scope of work.
Commissioner Lump said the theater project is "this is kind of the, a great example of, how urban renewal funds can be used," praising the mix of private fundraising and limited public support. No members of the public testified on the item.
Commissioner Lump moved to approve the grant and authorize the city manager to sign the agreement; Commissioner Adams seconded. The motion carried and the commission authorized execution of the $200,000 grant agreement.
