Board OKs $75,000 to launch rewrite of County Comprehensive Plan

The Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend a full rewrite of the County Comprehensive (Master) Plan, citing substantial changes needed. At the board meeting on April 21, Administrator/Controller John F. Fuentes and county staff recommended approving a $75,000 appropriation in the 2026 Major CIP to fund development of a Request for Proposals for a new comprehensive plan.
Commissioners approved the appropriation and directed Administration to proceed with RFP development. The minutes note the project is a priority but may require extra time because of limited staffing; Administration will also seek to schedule Planning Commission training using the Michigan Association of Planning curriculum.
Next steps: Administration will issue an RFP for consultant services to undertake the comprehensive-plan rewrite and return scheduling and staffing proposals to the board.
