Board and staff discussed gopher-control practices and whether poisoning gophers is permitted in Department of Transportation rights-of-way. Huber and Steffensen said they have "not seen anything from the State" on the issue and will speak with other county weed employees to gather more information before taking action.
Steffensen said there is a notice for the Shopper that she wanted the board to review and that she "will make sure it gets published next week, as well as updated on the website." Bauer emphasized that landowners are responsible for notifying townships and posting signs for no-spray zones where county spraying will not occur. The board also suggested the County Commission consider mosquito spraying as a separate topic for discussion.
