Commission awards 2026 chip seal and surfacing contracts totaling about $1.09 million

The Brookings County Commission on March 17 awarded the 2026 Chip Seal Project to The Road Guy Construction Co. of Yankton, S.D., for $179,173.75 and awarded the 2026 Surfacing Project to Duininck, Inc. of Watertown, S.D., for $914,579.81. Commissioners approved both low bids on unanimous roll-call votes.
Commission Department Director Stacy Steffensen provided background on the projects and recommended award based on bid results. The awards will be administered under standard county contracting procedures; the board authorized Chairperson Shawn Hostler to sign the formal agreement with The Road Guy Construction Co. and accepted the Duininck, Inc. bid for the surfacing contract.
Combined, the two awards total $1,093,753.56. County staff indicated the projects were part of the 2026 highway capital program and will proceed following contract execution and coordination with the Highway Department.
