Weatherford and Parker County agree to 25-year downtown dumpster lease

Parker County Commissioners Court approved an amended lease with the City of Weatherford that allows the city to place and operate dumpsters on county-owned downtown property.
Mayor Shumar of Weatherford told the court the city intends to place two larger dumpsters on the county-owned parking lot near the old clock shop and eventually construct an enclosure paid for by the city. “I don't believe they have permission. We've worked with the business owners that have the dumpsters. They're more than happy for the city to take over,” Mayor Shumar said. The arrangement is intended to reduce curbside trash pickups and improve downtown aesthetics.
County building-and-grounds staff confirmed the city would finance the enclosure and that a third-party contractor would perform pickup service. Commissioners approved the 25-year lease by unanimous vote and discussed operational details including access codes for businesses and service frequency during busy downtown events.
