Court approves Axon lease to buy county drones and software to limit foreign-server exposure

Jason, speaking for the Parker County Public Safety Drone Committee, asked the court to approve an operations standard for county drone usage and to allow staff to enter a lease agreement with Axon to acquire drones and supporting software that keeps certain foreign-server drone traffic off county networks. The committee proposed a turnkey five-year lease to acquire six indoor/outdoor drones and related software, with costs shared across departments and contingency funding used to start the program.
"We've been meeting for a few months now and have put together a framework for drone operations across all county departments that are gonna be doing that," Jason said, describing the operational policy and the plan to split costs among departments. Committee members described a 50,000 contingency allocation and assessed that the Axon turnkey lease would yield more assets than a straight purchase with that budget. The court approved the standard and authorized negotiation of the Axon lease and budget adjustments to implement the program.
