Sheriff’s office pushes for cloud migration of CAD and records; maintenance costs expected to double

The vendor offered free migration and data transfer in the near term if the county signs a new contract, but staff said the county’s annual maintenance costs would increase materially beginning next fiscal year.
Mark told the court the maintenance cost would "go from about $158,000 a year to double that, a little over $300,000," and that Central Square would lock that higher price for three years before moving to a modest annual escalation. IT staff (James Caywood) supported the change on security grounds, saying the cloud platform reduces the county’s attack surface and removes recurring hardware-replacement costs. Commissioners discussed non-appropriation clauses and long-term obligations; after discussion the court approved proceeding with the new contract and the necessary budget planning (motion carried 5-0).
