On the forensic audit of the Memphis‑Shelby County School System — a competitively bid forensic engagement funded at about $6,000,000 — the comptroller said the audit began around July but was slowed by initial reluctance from the district to cooperate. He said the audit is ongoing, may require additional funds because of the labor intensity of forensic work, and the office expects to provide at least an interim report during the legislative session. "The audit is not complete, but the findings will be significant when it is," he told the committee.
