Health Facilities Commission urges staffing and funding to tackle growing complaints and recertification backlog
Summary
Health Facilities Commission Executive Director Logan Grant told the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee the agency saw complaints rise to about 1,500 annually and requested funding for seven items — including additional surveyors, an extra paralegal and $80,000 recurring for NICU reverification — none of which were included in the governor's budget.

Logan Grant, executive director of the Health Facilities Commission, told the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee that the agency has seen a sharp rise in complaint volume — from 650–1,000 per year historically to more regularly upwards of 1,500 complaints a year now — and detailed seven funding requests that were omitted from the governor's proposal. "We had 7 items that we requested funding for in the governor's budget, which were not, none of which were included," Grant said, noting four immediate‑jeopardy complaint surveyor positions, additional surveyors to reduce recertification and low‑severity complaint backlogs, two positions funded from dedicated CON fees, a paralegal to assist five litigation attorneys, and an $80,000 recurring item to share NICU reverification costs (50% state match; 50% provider).
