Commissioner Bryson presented the administration’s FY27 budget recommendation to the Finance, Ways and Means committee on Feb. 3, saying the state is experiencing “moderately slow” revenue growth and citing a 2.35% growth projection for fiscal year 2027. He told members the state was tracking roughly $117,000,000 through December above budget and more recent counts put that nearer $135,000,000 above estimates.
Bryson outlined a general-fund picture built from closing balances and recurring/nonrecurring components, noting closing balances “for FY25 and FY26 of approximately $1,700,000,000” and saying the executive proposed using reserves and 1% agency reductions to create budget space. “We are in fine shape,” he said. The presentation also emphasized a conservative approach—Bryson said the total budget will be lower in nominal terms because federal one-time funds are being spent down, and the administration proposes adding $20,000,000 to the rainy-day fund.
