Initial 3–2 vote to proceed with Ferguson Corners design reversed after bylaws review
Summary
The Public Works Committee recorded a 3–2 vote to continue the Ferguson Corners Bridge rehabilitation "as designed," but staff later determined committee bylaws require four affirmative votes of the six-member committee; Chair Purdy announced they would not continue as designed.
At the May 11 special meeting the committee called for a vote on whether to continue the Ferguson Corners Road Bridge rehabilitation "as designed." The minutes record Banach, Holgate and Purdy voting "yes" and Button and Lawson voting "no." The meeting was adjourned and minutes were submitted.
After adjournment staff reviewed committee bylaws and notified the chair that the recorded tally did not meet the requirement that a majority be taken of the entire committee membership (four affirmative votes of six members) rather than only those present. Emilee Miller, clerk of the legislature, recorded an update in the minutes stating the vote did not carry and Chair Purdy announced the committee would not proceed with the project as previously reported. The minutes note there was no audio or Zoom during the post-adjournment announcement.
