County to keep abutments, install new beams and deck on Ferguson Corners bridge; temporary-bridge width options reviewed

During the May 11 special Public Works Committee meeting Highway Superintendent Doug Rapalee clarified technical elements of the Ferguson Corners rehab. In response to a committee question he said the abutments would remain in place and the work will include new beams and a new deck: "Abutments are staying, new beams, and a new deck."
The committee also discussed temporary bridge geometry: Rapalee said a single temporary lane would be roughly 13 feet 7 inches curb-to-curb (about 15 feet overall), while a dual configuration would be roughly 24 feet curb-to-curb (about 25 feet truss-to-truss). Members discussed whether a single temporary lane would adequately support farm tractor-trailers and emergency vehicles; Rapalee cautioned that special heavy loads may require axle-spacing calculations and permitting.
