Douglas Gibbs reported updates on veterans’ projects to the Human Services Committee and asked that a proclamation designating May 25 as Memorial Day proceed to the full Legislature. Gibbs said a Cornell design student has prepared initial concepts for a planned Yates County Veterans Memorial Park and that planners will hold town halls and public events to gather community feedback.
Gibbs told the committee that "The Village of Penn Yan has graciously agreed to let them put the park in the cemetery, right across from the Village Barns, across from Ball Field." He also said staff are scanning and returning original World War II and Korean War veteran discharge papers to families and continuing outreach through veterans’ trainings and advocacy programs. The committee accepted the report as information.
