County staff: Bridge NY covers main bridge project but state budget uncertainty clouds temporary‑bridge eligibility

At the May 11 special Public Works meeting, Chair Sarah Purdy stated the county's understanding of project funding: "This project is covered 95% by the Bridge NY funding program and 5% by the county." Committee members pressed whether a temporary access bridge would receive the same funding treatment.
Highway Superintendent Doug Rapalee cautioned that "the engineers can give a recommendation, but New York State hasn't even passed their budget yet this year," and said the timing and content of the state budget could affect Bridge NY eligibility and coverage for a temporary structure. The committee requested staff pursue clarification with state and Bridge NY officials and report back so the county can determine whether to require a temporary bridge without exposing the county to open-ended costs.
